How to Set up the Foundations for Google Success

Would you like to rank higher on Google?

Before running any campaign to rank higher on Google it is imperative to set up the foundations first.

In his excellent Udemy course, Joshua George outlines four foundations for Google success.

 Is your website mobile friendly?

This is one of the first things Google takes into consideration when deciding whether to rank your site. So how do you tell whether your website is mobile friendly or not?

First, you need to open up your website on Google Chrome.

Second, right click on your website and then click on “Inspect”

The following will come up:

The column on the right hand side is the source code of your webpage. You don’t need to worry about that. But at the top left of this column you will see the following buttons:

Simply click the button so it becomes blue:

Now, you are able to see how your website looks across different devices:

Have you set up Google Analytics?

First of all, what is Google Analytics? Basically, Google Analytics is a free tool that will provide you with insights into your website traffic and user behaviour. It provides you with the data you need to optimise your website for Google.

So how do you set up Google Analytics? Well, Google can say it better than I can. So here is a link to their page which tells you what you need to know about setting up Google Analytics for your small business website.

Have you set up Google Search Console?

Okay, so what on earth is Google Search Console? It’s a free tool that allows you to monitor the performance of your webpage on the Google search results (what comes up on the Google page when a potential customer searches for your service or product). It provides a lot of information that you can use to optimise your website.

Now let’s set it up for your webpage. Just like with Google Analytics, Google can say it better than I can. So I will give you another link to go to which will help you in setting up Google Search Console for your webpage.

Do you have a Google Business Profile (Formerly Google My Business)

A Google Business Profile increases your online visibility, and displays contact information, reviews and rating to potential customers in the Google search results. Setting up and optimising a Google Business Profile is crucial if you want your small business to have online success.

Here is the link that will help you to set up your Google Business Profile for your small business webpage.

When I fist set mine up it appeared like this:

But it was all good. I just had to wait a few minutes:

As you can see, I still need to do some work to optimise it. But I have set up the foundations.

Conclusion

In order to set up your small business webpage for Google success, is it vital to have the foundations in place. It is only with these foundations that you can continue working on your site effectively to gain more customers from Google. It takes some time and effort, but once done it’s worth it.
